El Cajon, Calif. -- The Cal State San Marcos Cougars handed the Hawks their 9th loss of the season on Wednesday, in a 4-0 win. San Diego Christian is now 1-9-1 overall, with their GSAC record remaining at 0-5, while CSUSM improves to 7-2-2 on the year.
CSUSM came out with fire, putting pressure on the SDC defense. Five minutes in, SDC stepped up their play, going in hard to tackles with most of the battles taking place in the midfield. As far as chances at goal, CSUSM had most of the opportunities in the first, scoring on one of them in the 19th minute on a small touch inside the box over SDC keeper Cameron Riley.
Nearing the end of the first, El Cajon native Dan Sims rocked a shot inside the 18 to put the Cougars up 2-0. They would tack on a header goal in the last minute, taking a 3-0 lead into halftime.
Ten fouls and three yellow cards in the second half slowed play, but didn't present many shots for the Hawks who totaled six shots, five coming in the second. San Marcos continued to create chances, putting one more goal up in the 83rd minute, closing out their third straight win.
The Hawks play again Saturday, October 16, against GSAC opponent Fresno Pacific University. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:00pm.
