Costa Mesa, Calif. -- San Diego Christian College volleyball (8-11, 1-9 GSAC) came up short on Saturday night against Vanguard University, falling in three 25-13, 25-17, 25-15. Vanguard improves to 11-8 overall, tacking on their third GSAC win in ten games.
Lauren Howard had the leading number of kills on the night for the Hawks at ten, also recording an ace. Kim McCalmont followed close behind in kills with 7, 6 digs, an ace and a block assist. Setter Rachel Allen had 18 assists and four kills.
SDC's best rallies came in the second set where they hit .154, their best percentage of the night. Unfortuantely, VU also posted their high in that set, .462, having only 1 error in 26 attempts. In the course of play, SDC took the lead once at 4-3 on a kill by Allen, but a VU kill on the next play sparked a steady climb to the Lions capturing the set.
The first and third set were a struggle for the Hawks as VU opened a significant lead in both sets, powering through to 25-13 and 25-15 wins. Overall, the Lions outhit the Hawks .325 to .080.
SDC hosts The Master's College on Friday, October 15 for their last meeting with TMC for 2010. That Friday also marks the night that SDCC Volleyball will be in pink in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness month. In conjunction with their support, they will be taking contributions to donate to the Side-Out Foundation whose mission is to raise money and awareness about Breast Cancer through volleyball.
