El Cajon, Calif. -- San Diego Chrsitian Men's soccer (1-7-1, 0-4 GSAC) faced Point Loma Nazarene University (4-6, 1-3 GSAC) on Tuesday with hopes of avenging their 2-0 loss from August 31, but came up short, falling 3-1.
SDC scrambled early, leading to a foul in the box that gave Loma the 1-0 lead in the second minute on a successful penalty kick by Francios Furlan. PLNU's pace slowed, allowing SDC to put a few shots on the board. The Sea Lions continued to shoot, recording seven shots in the first to SDC's three.
Loma entered the second half with a 1-0 lead, continuing to possess well and adding two more goals in the 56th and 78th minutes, for a 3-0 lead.
SDC's Brent Oglesby (pictured left) and Jordan Abad had two threatening shots tipped up and over the crossbar in the 76th and 79th minutes by PLNU keeper Carter Philips, seeming to secure the shutout for the Sea Lions. SDC continued to play hard despite being down by three. Their efforts paid off in the 86th minute as Oglesby Oglesby's one touch finish from the top of the 18, broke the coveted shutout. Abad was credited with the save.
SDC keeper Cameron Riley and PLNU's Philips both had four saves in the 90 minutes.
The Hawks travel to The Master's College on Saturday, October 9 to play the No. 23 Mustangs. The game is scheduled to being at 3:00pm.
