El Cajon, Calif. -- After a scoreless draw in their last meeting on August 31, San Diego Christian (4-4-3, 0-2-2 GSAC) and the No. 17 Sea Lions (2-3-4, 0-2-2 GSAC) tied again but this time with a 2-2 score.
To begin the game, Loma intercepted a pass in their box, countering for their first chance at goal with their first three shots came on headers from the flanks. SDC had few passes connect in the first, playing long balls up top or taking Loma on the dribble. Defensively, the back line was caught on their heels a few times, once allowing a shot by Loma center mid Lauren Abarca to slip through, giving Loma a 1-0 lead in the 15th minute.
It was a quiet rest of the half, as far as goals go, until senior Hannah Waggoner (pictured left) slotted a ball into the right side, giving senior Sarah Le the assist on the set up. The tie remained through the half, ending with Loma having taken 15 shots and SDC 5.
Sixteen minutes into the second, SDC landed their first corner of the game. On the corner, Waggoner had a header finish on the lofting ball Clare Wohlfeil put far post to put the Hawks up 2-1, their first lead in GSAC and her 5th goal of 2010. Sadly, the lead was short lived as Brooke Winklepleck put away the equalizer in the 73rd minute.
The equalizer shifted momentum in Loma's favor, but even through two overtime periods, the game still ended in a draw.
Katelyn Ogle had 4 saves in the first, while Garbez totaled 3 saves through 65 minutes. Loma keeper Tiffany Kracy had five saves in the 110 minutes for the Sea Lions.
The Hawks are at The Master's College on Saturday, October 9, with a 1:00pm start.
