Fresno, Calif. -- It was a rough outting for the Hawks (10-31, 10-23 GSAC) after the bus ride to Fresno, where they fell to the No. 24 Fresno Pacific University Sunbirds (28-13, 20-13 GSAC), 13-5.
Fresno wasted no time, posting three runs on four hits in the first inning with two runs coming off a home run to center by Case Rigby (8). Jeff Taylor (2) led off the second inning by homering to center, opening the door for three additional runs to cross home in that inning, making it 7-0 in the second.
SDCC was held scoreless through five innings, squeezing out a mere 2 hits. In the top of the 6th, that changed as a string of singles brought home three runs, making it 9-3 going into the bottom of the 6th. But a three-run 6th for the Sunbirds widened their lead to 9.
SDCC's final two runs were posted in the 8th inning on a home run to left center by Ruben Hinojosa (5), who went 2-for-4 with three RBI's. Gabriel Item was also 2-for-4 on the day.
In 6 innings, Fito Grijalva (2-8) gave up 12 runs on 13 hits, striking out 6. FPU's David Hawes (4-4) received the win, going 8 innings, giving up 5 hits, 5 runs and striking out 11 of the 33 batters he faced.
