] Azusa, Calif. --
If one would have told the San Diego Christian College baseball team that they would have 17 runs and 25 hits in a double header, the SDCC baseball squad would have expected at least one win. Unfortunately for the Hawks, the #5 Azusa Pacific Cougars pounded 36 hits and piled up 30 runs of their own in a double header sweep of the Hawks on Monday afternoon. APU took game one 13-9 and game two 17-8.
SDCC falls to 17-26 overall and 9-15 in the GSAC. APU is now 32-9 overall and 21-3 in the GSAC.
In game one, APU jumped in front with two runs in the first and one in the second. SDCC came right back and tied the game up with three runs in the top of the third. Alex Mann doubled to lead off the inning. Jesus Castellanos then singled through the right side to score Mann. After two outs, Victor Martinez hit his fourth homerun of the season to tie the game at 3-3.
APU would take a commanding lead with an 8-run sixth inning. Trailing 13-3 heading into the eighth, the Hawks put up a fight, scoring four in the top of the eighth when Castellanos led the inning off with a double, advanced to third on a Tyler Bailey single, and scored on Sean Sweeney’s single. With two men on, Martinez tripled to left center to score Bailey and Sweeney. Nick Bando then capped off the SDCC scoring in the eighth with a single to plate Martinez.
The Hawks scored a pair in the top of the ninth, but were unable to overcome the deficit and dropped game one 13-9.

Game two saw SDCC again pound the baseball, tallying 13 hits and 8 runs.
SDCC scored in the top of the first. Martinez singled and later scored on a Lusardi single and Bando, who reached on an error, scored the Hawks’ second run on an RBI double from Castellanos to push SDCC up 2-0.
Unfortunately for the Hawks, the lead was short lived as APU hammered out 11 runs in the first three innings on 13 hits.
SDCC continued to score runs, putting up one in the second, four in the fourth, and one in the seventh, but was unable to keep with the pace of the #5 Cougars. APU is now hitting .339 as a team for the season.
