San Marcos, Calif. -- The San Diego Christian College baseball team salvaged a split with #23 Cal State San Marcos on Saturday. SDCC dropped the opener but got a complete game shutout from Lucas Whitmore in a 2-0 win in the nightcap.

SDCC moves to 17-22 overall and CSUSM goes to 21-13.

The Cougars took game one 15-0 behind an 18-hit performance. CSUSM grabbed the lead with 11 runs in the fourth and fifth innings.

SDCC never got on track offensively, scattering only three hits for the game.

Adair Robles (4-5) was tagged with the loss. Robles gave up five runs on seven hits in 4.0 innings of work.

In game two, SDCC’s handed the ball to Whitmore (pictured left) who was in control the entire game.

SDCC scored the only runs of the game in the top of the fourth. Nick Bando walked to lead off the inning and Chris Pascual singled. After a pair of outs and a walk to Dawson Jones, Dylan Jones delivered a two out, two RBI single to centerfield.

The two runs were all that Whitmore (4-3) would need.

The senior from Lakeside scattered five hits, striking out six, and walking only two in the complete game win. Whitmore now has four complete games on the season in ten starts.

The Hawks had only four hits in game two. Pascual, Dylan Jones, Jeff Lusardi, and Sean Sweeney each had hits for the Hawks.

SDCC returns home to face #5 Azusa Pacific University on Saturday, April 7th for a double header. First pitch is scheduled for 11:00am.
