Fresno, Calif. --Runs were at a premium on Saturday, as the San Diego Christian College baseball team split a doubleheader with the Fresno Pacific Sunbirds. SDCC won game one 3-0 behind a stellar pitching performance by Adair Robles while dropping game two 3-1.

SDCC moves to 14-20 (9-11) while FPU goes to 17-14 (8-10) with the split.

The Hawks took a quick lead in the first game, scoring a pair of runs in the first. After a leadoff out, Jeff Lusardi singled. Victor Martinez and Jesus Castellanos were hit by pitches in consecutive at bats to load the bases. After a strikeout, Chris Pascual singled to right on an 0-2 pitch to plate Lusardi and Martinez.

The two runs would be all that Robles (4-4) would need.

The senior from Mexico City found his groove early, collecting strikeouts in each of the first three innings. Robles(pictured left) kept Sunbird hitters off balance all day, as FPU did not have a runner reach third base in game one.

SDCC tacked on another run in the top of the ninth on a Tyler Bailey single that brought home Nick Bando.

Robles threw 8.0 shutout innings, scattering only three hits, striking out six and walking three. Robles day was punctuated by striking out the final two batters he faced in the bottom of the eighth.

Hawks’ closer Jeremy Blare retired FPU in the ninth to collect his third save of the season.

In game one, Chris Pascual led SDCC, going 2-3 with 2 RBIs.

In game two, SDCC struck again first when Sean Sweeney singled home Bailey in the top of the second to give the Hawks a 1-0 lead.

FPU did all there damage in the bottom of the fourth with three runs off of SDCC starter Brock Heerdt.

The Hawks were stymied by FPU pitcher Chris Herrera. The Hawks’ bats were going early, with SDCC collecting seven hits in the first three innings. Herrera settled in, however, and the Hawks did not have a hit, and only one baserunner, after the fourth inning.

Heerdt (2-2) suffered the loss for SDCC. Heerdt threw 3.1 innings, allowing 3 runs on 6 hits. Luis Rivas threw 3.0 scoreless innings in relief and Garrison McLagan threw 1.2 innings to close the game out.

SDCC continues their season on Tuesday, March 27th with a home game against Bethesda University at 3:00pm.
