(Volleyball) Permanent linkSat., Nov 12th, 2011 [ box score] Fresno, Calif. --
The San Diego Christian College volleyball team concluded their 2011 campaign on the road at 4-time defending national champion Fresno Pacific, falling in straight games 25-17, 25-14, 25-23.
The Hawks jumped up quickly in game one, taking a 9-5 advantage before the Sunbirds started chipping away. SDCC held their final lead at 12-11 before FPU went on a 13-6 run to take game one.
FPU took control of game two from the beginning, but the Hawks refused to go quietly, battling back to cut into the Sunbird advantage. FPU was too much overall, capturing game two 25-14.
Game three saw the Hawks fight back late in the game. Trailing 18-15, the Hawks went on a 6-2 run on serves from Jessica Brazynetz and three straight kills from Lauren Howard. In the end, FPU was too much and won game three and the match.
SDCC was led by Senior Lauren Howard with nine kills in her final game as a Hawk. Chelsea Rose added eight assists and ten digs.
SDCC ends their season with a record of 7-27 and 1-17 in the GSAC. (Volleyball) Permanent link Tue., Nov. 8, 2011[Box Score] El Cajon, CA-- The San Diego Christian College volleyball team
hosted cross-town foe Point Loma Nazarene University in their home finale
Tuesday night, falling in four games 23-25, 25-11, 25-14, 25-10. The night saw the Lady
Hawks honor seniors Jessica Brazynetz (pictured left) and Lauren Howard, both
playing in their final home match.
The first
game saw the Lady Hawks use the emotion of senior night to jump up quickly.
Both teams exchanged points for the entire game, with the largest lead coming
from PLNU at 16-13. SDCC quickly responded with three straight points to knot
the game at 16. Both teams continued to exchange points and the Hawks took the
lead 23-22 on an Aja Walker kill. PLNU tied it at 23-23, but Walker and Mariah
Boelk combined to block a Sea Lion attack to take a 24-23 lead. SDCC then took
the game on an attack error by PLNU.
The
momentum did not last long, however, as the Sea Lions quickly jumped up on the
Hawks 9-2 in the second game. PLNU did not let up and took the game 25-11.
PLNU used
a strong attack in games three and four as well in route to 25-14 and 25-10
wins. PLNU hit .417 for the match and .529 in game four.
For the
match, SDCC was led by Howard’s 10 kills. Chelsea Rose added 14 assists and
Stephanie Rice had 12 digs.
SDCC finishes
their season on Saturday at Fresno Pacific at 3:00pm.

Mirada, CA- As the season heads to its conclusion, the San
Diego Christian College volleyball team
was looking for an upset on the road at #11 Biola. In the end, the Eagles were
too much for the Hawks, sweeping the match 25-15, 25-19, 25-12.
The Lady Hawks hung tough in the first game, even holding
the lead 11-10. Biola pushed through and rolled out a 10-4 run and took the
game.
The second game remained knotted at 10-10 when Biola jumped
ahead again on a big run. SDCC made a push to cut the score to 19-17, but the
Eagles were able to stay on top and take game two.
The Eagles jumped out quickly in game three and never looked
back. SDCC was unable to mount a
comeback and Biola won game three and the match.
SDCC was led by Lauren Phillips who had nine kills. Cassidy
Mertens added 20 assists, and Stephanie Rice had 11 of the teams' 33 digs.
The Hawks host Point Loma Nazarene University on Tuesday in

El Cajon, Calif. --The San Diego Christian College volleyball team took a
little while to get going on Tuesday night, but when they finally did, they
were dominating in a sweep of Hope International University 25-23, 25-15,
25-18.
The Royals led much of the first game, including taking a
23-19 lead late. SDCC used straight kills from Lauren Howard to cut the lead to
one 23-22, and Stephanie Rice led them to a game one win with three straight
points while serving.
SDCC started out strong in game two scoring the first five
points behind Cassidy Merten’s serves and a pair of Howard kills. The lead
ballooned to 14-3 until HIU battled to cut into the SDCC lead. The Hawks would
be not be deterred as they continued to take point after point and won the game
25-15.
The third game continued from where the second one left off,
as SDCC jumped out quickly to a 10-3 lead. After a small Royal run, the Hawks
put the game away behind a .483 hitting percentage and 16 kills.
The SDCC attack was led by Aja Walker, Lauren Phillips,
Shelby Broberg, and Howard, who combined for 34 kills. Walker hit .529 for the
game, while Broberg hit .417 and Mariah Boelk hit .357. In addition, Mertens
had 33 assists and Stephanie Rice had 16 digs.
SDCC continues their season on the road at Biola on

Azusa Calif. --The San Diego Christian College women’s volleyball team
travelled to Azusa Pacific University on Saturday for an afternoon match. The Hawks
challenged the #7 Cougars before falling in straight sets 25-19, 25-13, 25-11.
The first game saw SDCC come back late in the game, going on
a 5-0 run to cut the lead to 22-19. APU was too much, however, and took the
next three points to take the game.
Games two and three saw APU take advantage of a total of 26
kills and 16 errors from SDCC.
Cassidy Mertens led SDCC with 16 assists and 13 digs.
The Hawks host Hope International University on Tuesday at

Irvine, CA-- Trying to figure out the Concordia volleyball team has been
a challenge this season for nearly every team. Unfortunately, the San Diego Christian College
volleyball team became another victim for the #2 ranked Eagles in straight
games 25-19, 25-14, 25-21.
Concordia improves to 26-1 (13-0 GSAC) while SDCC falls to
6-23 (0-13 GSAC).
After dropping the first two games, the Hawks showed great
life in game 3. The entire game was back and forth, with SDCC holding the lead
at 13-12. CU quickly went on a 9-3 run to stretch their lead to 21-16. Again,
the Hawks fought back, going on small 5-2 run to get within striking distance.
But late, the Eagles were too much, putting the game away on consecutive kills.
Overall in game 3, there were 11 ties and 7 lead changes.
For the Hawks, Rachel Allen had 9 digs and 6 kills. Cassidy
Mertens chipped in with 12 assists.
The Hawks travel to Azusa Pacific University of a match on
Saturday, October 29th. (Volleyball) Permanent linkOctober 22, 2011
El Cajon, CA--One day after knocking off Hannibal-LeGrange University and
taking #15 Cal State San Marcos to the limit, the San Diego Christian College
volleyball team was looking to build off of that momentum against the visiting
Mustangs of The Master’s College. The Hawks, however, could not utilize on the previous
day’s energy and TMC swept the hosts 25-11, 25-12, 25-18.
The loss sends SDCC to 6-22 and 0-12 in the GSAC.TMC moves
to 17-10 and 5-7 in the GSAC.
The first two games were controlled by TMC, with the
Mustangs posting a .500 attack percentage in game one and a .708 attack
percentage in game two.
The third games saw SDCC fight to get back in the game late,
when Stephanie Rice began to serve with the score in favor of TMC at 23-15. The
Hawks went on a 5-0 run and it looked like SDCC would be able to pull within
striking distance. It was too late, however, and TMC took the final two points
to take the match.
SDCC heads to Concordia on Tuesday, October 25th
for a 7:00pm match.
