Hawks Fall to NCAA Div I University of San Diego, 11-3

San Diego, Calif. -- San Diego Christian College Hawks baseball team (8-40) wrapped up its 2011 schedule on Wednesday with a loss to NCAA Division I University of San Diego (19-27), 11-3. Starter Adair Robles pitched the first two innings and held the Toreros scoreless. In the top of the third, the Hawks took the lead on two out RBI singles by Trevor Bloom and David Kaczor, which scored Ryan Inverson (walk) and Victor Martinez (single). This early lead proved to be the only advantage for the Hawks on the afternoon.

In the bottom of the inning and in the fourth, USD accumulated seven runs to set up the win. The big hit was a three-run shot by Jon Hotta that gave the Toreros a 4-2 lead. Then, Kris Bryant hit his ninth home run of the year in the fourth for USD. The other offensive highlight for the Hawks was a seventh inning leadoff triple by first baseman Greg Joseph, who scored on a Victor Martinez RBI ground out. USD responded with their final four runs in the bottom of the inning with a mix of walks and singles.

USD’s Right-hander Trevor Bayless (1-0) picked up his first win of the year after working 3.0 innings of two-hit relief, while Nick Bando (1-4) took the loss for the Hawks. Martinez, Kaczor and Dominic Neocoechea each tallied two hits on the day.

Bloom and Maddox, GSAC Scholar Athletes

Azusa, Calif. -- The Golden State Athletic Conference released a listing of twenty-one Scholar-Athletes from the conferences 10 teams on Wednesday. Amongst the honorees were San Diego Christian's Taylor Maddox (Sr., OF) and Trevor Bloom who was also selected to the All-GSAC team earlier in the week. Maddox was also honored with NAIA and NCCAA Scholar-Athlete honors this season.

Student-Athlete's who's names appear on the GSAC Scholar-Athlete list are juniors or seniors who have maintained a 3.5 grade point average.

Bloom Named to All-GSAC Team

Azusa, Calif. -- The Golden State Athletic Conference released the 2011 All-GSAC Team and Gold Glove Team awardees on Monday, listing San Diego Christian's Trevor Bloom as the second base selection.

Bloom, a senior transfer to SDCC from Sacramento State, started in all 47 games, leading the Hawks with a .340 batting average and .521 slugging percentage. He recorded 64 hits in 188 at bats (13 doubles, 3 triples, 5 home runs) bringing 33 runs across the plate, while also leading the team in runs with 34. By the end of the regular season, he was ranked ninth in the NAIA in at bats per game (4.0/g) having posted 19 multi-hit games with 15 of those coming against GSAC conference pitching.

The Hawks finished 8-39 in 2011, but were ranked in 6th in at bats per game (33.638/g), 22nd in putouts per game (24.787/g), 48th in assists per game (9.638/g) and 50th in hits per game (9.404/g) for NAIA Division I Baseball.
