El Cajon, Calif. --The San Diego Christian College baseball team concluded their season on Saturday, splitting with the Biola Eagles. The Hawks responded after dropping game one, 12-2, to finish the season with a 12-6 victory.

SDCC finishes the season 19-32 (11-21) while BU goes to 25-25 (18-14) after the split.

Although the season ended for the Hawks just short of the GSAC tournament, SDCC took a huge step forward for the program by improving on only eight wins last season.

Game one saw Biola hammer SDCC pitching en route to a 12-2 win. The Eagles pounded out 21 hits, including 17 hits off of SDCC starter Lucas Whitmore (4-5). Whitmore pitched out of several jams, and allowed only seven runs (six earned) in 7.0 innings. Whitmore also struck out four and walked one.

Game two saw the Hawks jump on top early and never trail. Sweeney started off the SDCC scoring by leading off with a single and then stealing second base. Dawson Jones brought Sweeney home with a single to give SDCC the 1-0 lead.

The Hawks added three more in the bottom of the third when a pair of errors led to three unearned runs. Cedric Bogan delivered the biggest blow of the inning with a two RBI single up the middle on a 2-2 pitch, while Robert Aguirre also walked with the bases loaded to drive in another run.

The Hawks added a run in the sixth, and put the game away with three in the seventh and four in the eighth.

In the seventh, Josh Fernandez advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on an errant throw. Martinez also drove in a run with a double and Garrison McLagan added run with a sacrifice fly.

In the eighth, SDCC used a two out rally to take a commanding lead. Gary Foster singled and Bogan then walked. Sweeney then singled to plate a run and Martinez hammered a 1-1 offering over the right field wall in his final at bat as a Hawk, to push the lead to 12-6.

Tyler Sanborn (1-0) earned the win in his first start of the season. Sanborn (pictured left) gave up three runs on eight hits, while striking out two in 7.0 innings of work.

The Hawks had 12 hits in game two, led by three hits each from Sweeney, Martinez, and McLagan. Foster added a pair of hits.

Martinez finished the game just a single shy of the cycle. Martinez scored three runs and drove in four RBIs.

Between games, SDCC honored eight seniors, including Victor Martinez, Robert Aguirre, Chris Pascual, Cedric Bogan, Adair Robles, Sean Sweeney, Calvin Seaberry, Luis Rivas, and Lucas Whitmore.

La Mirada, Calif. --The San Diego Christian College baseball team could not get the offense rolling in a double header sweep at the hands of Biola. The Eagles took game one 6-2 and game two 6-1.

SDCC falls to 18-31 (10-20) while BU goes to 24-24 (17-13) with the wins. The Eagles also clinched the #3 seed in the GSAC tournament.

The Hawks still have a chance to make the GSAC playoffs. SDCC must sweep Biola tomorrow and have Fresno Pacific get swept by Concordia in their double header. Per GSAC rules, SDCC would win a tie breaker versus FPU.

In game one, SDCC fell behind 6-0 on a pair of Drake Fages' homeruns for the Eagles before getting on the board in the sixth.

In the SDCC sixth, Sean Sweeney walked and stole second base. Jeff Lusardi drove a double to the right centerfield wall to plate Sweeney.

SDCC added another run in the seventh, when Sweeney drove in Cedric Bogan. Bogan had walked and stole second base.

It was too little, too late for the Hawks as BU took game one 6-2.

Adair Robles (5-7) suffered the loss for SDCC. Robles threw the complete game, striking out six and allowing six runs.

In game one, Lusardi and Nick Bando each had a pair of hits for the Hawks.

In game two, SDCC jumped on BU pitcher Nick Turner with three hits and a run in the top of the first.

After two initial outs, Lusardi singled, followed by Dawson Jones getting hit by the pitch. Bando then singled to score Lusardi. A single by Luis Rivas loaded the bases. The Hawks were unable to push across any more runs in the first but held a 1-0 lead.

After the Hawks’ first inning, Turner settled in for the Eagles and did not allow another SDCC hit. BU took advantage of three SDCC errors en route to a 6-1 victory.

Garisson McLagan (1-8) took the loss for the Hawks. McLagan threw all six innings, allowing six runs (two earned) on eleven hits. McLagan also struck out a pair.

SDCC concludes their regular season on Saturday, April 28th with a double header at home against Biola. First pitch is 12:00.

El Cajon, Calif. --The San Diego Christian College baseball team’s GSAC playoff hopes took a hit on Saturday, as the Hawks dropped a double header to Vanguard University. The Lions took game one 7-6 in 10 innings and outslugged SDCC in the nightcap, 15-7.

SDCC falls to 18-29 (10-18) while VU goes to 21-18 (11-16) with the wins.

The Hawks still have a chance to make the GSAC playoffs, but SDCC will need to take care of business and need the cards to fall their way. The Hawks are currently tied with Westmont for seventh place while Vanguard sits 1 ½ games in front and Fresno Pacific is 2 games in front of both SDCC and Westmont. Vanguard and Westmont conclude GSAC play with a four game series with each other next week while FPU battles Concordia.

In game one, SDCC fell behind a run in the top of the second, only to tie the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the third. Tyler Bailey was hit by a pitch to lead the inning off for SDCC. Sean Sweeney then singled and Bailey advanced to third. After a groundout to the drawn-in infield, Bailey took advantage of a wild pitch to get SDCC on the board.

Vanguard responded with a run in the fourth and three in the fifth to move ahead 5-1. After SDCC added a run in the bottom of the fifth on consectuve singles from Sweeney and Victor Martinez, and a sacrifice fly off the bat of Dawson Jones, Vanguard scored again in the top of the sixth to reclaim the four run lead at 6-2.

The SDCC half of the sixth inning started out with an out, but Nick Bando triggered the Hawks’ rally with a single. Chris Pascual then doubled to the right centerfield wall to drive in Cedric Bogan, the courtesy runner for Bando. Jesus Castellanos then struck out but reached on a wild pitch on strike three and Pascual advanced to third. Bailey then hit into a fielder’s choice, driving in Pascual. Next, Sweeney singled and Bailey advanced to second. With Victor Martinez batting, SDCC caught a break. Martinez hit a pop up into shallow left field. The Vanguard shortstop, David Kiriakos, lost the ball in the sun and it dropped in for a hit. Bailey and Sweeney were both running hard with two outs, and Bailey scored from second and Sweeney advanced to third. SDCC was unable to bring Sweeney home but had cut the Lion lead to 6-5 after six innings.

After a scoreless inning and a half SDCC struck again in the bottom of the eighth. Garrison McLagan singled to lead off the inning. Bailey then beat out a sacrifice bunt for a single. After a Sean Sweeney sacrifice to send McLagan to third and Bailey to second, Martinez was intentionally walked. Dawson Jones then grounded a ball up the middle which was stabbed by a diving second baseman. In an effort to get an out, the second basemen tossed the ball past the shortstop at second base and everyone was safe, tying the game at 6-6. SDCC was unable to convert and push another run across and the game remained tied until the top of the 10th.

The Lions pushed across a run across in the top of the 10th to take a 7-6 lead. SDCC went 1-2-3 in the bottom of the 10th to end the game.

Sweeney and Bando each had three hits in game one for the Hawks. Pascual and Martinez had a pair of hits each.

Lucas Whitmore started the game for SDCC, and threw 7.0 innings, allowing 6 runs on 8 hits while striking out 5. Jeremy Blare (3-3) suffered the loss in relief.

Game two was not kind to SDCC, as VU rolled out seven runs on seven hits in the top of the first inning. While the Hawks tried to chip away at the lead, the Lions continued to score, adding runs in five of the first six innings en route to a 15-7 victory.

Bando led SDCC in game two, going 2-4 with 4 RBIs. Sweeney added a pair of hits in game two.

SDCC continues their season on Thursday, April 26th with a double header at Biola.

Azusa, Calif. -- If one would have told the San Diego Christian College baseball team that they would have 17 runs and 25 hits in a double header, the SDCC baseball squad would have expected at least one win. Unfortunately for the Hawks, the #5 Azusa Pacific Cougars pounded 36 hits and piled up 30 runs of their own in a double header sweep of the Hawks on Monday afternoon. APU took game one 13-9 and game two 17-8.

Alex Mann doubled to lead off the inning. Jesus Castellanos then singled through the right side to score Mann. After two outs, Victor Martinez hit his fourth homerun of the season to tie the game at 3-3.

APU would take a commanding lead with an 8-run sixth inning. With two men on, Martinez tripled to left center to score Bailey and Sweeney. Nick Bando then capped off the SDCC scoring in the eighth with a single to plate Martinez.
