About the Teacher Credential Program

The State approved Teacher Credential Program at SDCC offers an SB 2042 California Preliminary Credential for Multiple Subjects (elementary) or for Single Subjects (secondary). This is a quality program that offers small classes, individual attention and dedicated Christian professors. When all prerequisites have been met, the core credential program can be finished in less than a year.

Interested persons who already hold a BS/BA degree may apply directly for admittance to the program. Interested students who are currently enrolled at SDCC may apply to the Teacher Credential Program during their undergraduate programs. See the following links for more information:

AB2086 requires all teacher preparation programs to provide information, as specified, to prospective candidates regarding the license examination passage rates of completers for the most recent available year.  To comply with this requirement, SDCC pass rate data can be viewed  HERE The full state report can also be viewed at this link:

Start January 9, 2012 to become a credentialed teacher by June 30, 2013!

Block 1

First Eight Weeks:    
MS/SS   ED 505/506  Curriculum and Instruction (3) Tuesday, 4-9pm
MS/SS    ED 503  Educational Psychology (3) Thursday, 4-9pm
MS/SS    ED 507  Seminar in Professional Dev (1) 1 Sat, 8:30-4:30pm
SS only          ED 508  Secondary Teaching Methods (2)    2 Sat, 8:30-4:30pm

Second Eight Weeks:    
MS/SS   Teaching of Reading (3) Thursday, 4-9pm

 Passage of CBEST and CSET must be completed and scores submitted to the Ed Dept. by October 15, 2012 in order to student teach in the spring of 2013. 
Block 3 - Spring 2013    
(Prerequisites:  Passage of Block 2 coursework with a B- or better in all courses.  Passage of CBEST and CSET by the October 15, 2012 deadline.)

Pre-requisites due before application for credential:

Computers Level 1, U.S. Government, Health Education for Teachers, Valid CPR . Ask the Ed Dept. for "Prerequisite Alternatives" information.

Check out grants for Teacher Credentialing:

CAL Grant: Up to $9708 a year, based on grade point average and financial need.

PELL Grant:  Now available!  Up to $5550 a year, based on need.

APLE Grant: $11,000 in student loans may be paid by the California Student Aid Commission for teaching 4 years in a low performing or low income school after receiving your credential. Math and Science teachers may receive $15,000 to $19,000 after 4 years teaching in an eligible school.

Troops to Teachers: Calling all military personnel and veterans!  San Diego Christian College now participates in the Troops to Teachers program!  Military personnel may qualify for $5000 to $10,000 in grants toward earning their credential.
